Kuan-Yu Chou.
Born in Tainan, Taiwan, in 2001, She currently based in London and studying for an MA in Art and Science at Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, UK, specializing in painting, performance, and video, and is deeply rooted in personal experiences with illness.
Kuan-Yu was inspired to create art by her personal experiences with illness. She recognised that the experience of a disease could be a powerful starting point for artists, permitting them to enter a sphere of complex emotions that are difficult to express otherwise. Illness can bring physical pain as well as mental suffering, and it can make the routine of daily life seem fragile and uncertain. Kuan-Yu used various media to express the multiple elements of her experience with illness (above all, the sentiment of pain). She explores her relationship with the disease and the collective anxiety of living in the pandemic era. Through her art, Kuan-Yu sought to clarify the connection between herself and the environment around her to express her mental journey while creating her pieces.
